As you know Tom no longer has a job. We went away to the mountains of North Carolina last week to be alone and mostly to listen. Tom prayed. I prayed. We prayed together and read God’s Word. It was exactly as we hoped it would be, and God met us.
One morning I heard something specific for Tom during this season. But since it was directional in nature I purposed to wait to tell him until I felt prompted by the Lord to do so. As we were leaving our amazing and romantic one-bedroom cabin 🙂 I asked Tom if he had heard anything specific from the Lord. Imagine my surprise when he shared with me that he had heard exactly what I had heard! I was able to confirm what he was sensing, and we both came away satisfied with God meeting us as we had hoped.
When was the last time you purposed to hear from God separately and/or together? Did He meet you in a special way?
Amen. Your togetherness is so inspiring. May God continue guiding you through all this. All will be well.

Actually, Tom *does* have a job. The same one he has had since birth — to seek God’s will in his life. 🙂 Part of my devotional for today was Exodus 16, when God sends manna from heaven. Just enough for today … with a promise that there will be more tomorrow.
I love the timeliness of the banner in the cabin next to you! We have a wonderful opportunity to glorify God when we cling to him through hard times, but I know — from plenty of personal experience! – how tempting it is to want to fix everything on our own.
You and Tom are doing great!

Thanks, Anna, for sharing what God was showing you this morning. I love that passage, and we couldn’t believe the timeliness of the banner either. It was as if God was welcoming us to the mountain where He knew He was going to speak to us and encourage us. The adventure continues…

That is very cool! It has been a while since I have, but back in November I thought I heard Him very specifically say that I should apply at the local police dept. I was absolutely convinced.

Were you qualified to work in the police dept. or was this one of those fluke, out-of-no-where thoughts? I’ve had plenty of those too.

It hit me when my son was dressed up in a police uniform running around with a gun and shooting bad people. I have to laugh when I think back now, but I spent a lot of money and time preparing for something I never applied for…!!

Why didn’t you apply?

My husband got a new job and would be travelling 3 days a week RIGHT around the time when I applied. It just didn’t make sense…the kids need someone to be with them as they are still young. Plus, it didn’t help that I had an affair right around the same time that I was planning to apply? Stupid stupid lapse in judgment…WHY would they bother accepting me after a mistake like that? AND…WHY would I want to put myself into the position where I would be with handsome men all around the clock. The job is just wrong for me. But I was soooo convinced. It still makes me shake my head in wonder…what was I thinking? So now…I’m planning to look into what it takes to teach bootcamp or TRX or kickboxing…a LOT more suited to our schedule. It amazes me how life changes.

Sounds like you made the right choice, even if you didn’t realize it at the time!

Yeah. The funny thing was I had pages of “confirmation” so I was really convinced it was the right direction. I might be wondering about that one until the day I die. But perhaps it’s all about seeing what you want to see too…and it’s obvious by the timing that I wasn’t in the height of my spirituality either. I was definitely searching for purpose.

How glorious to find God in his beautiful creation. Nothin’ better than Appalachian country! We not too long ago went through a season similar to yours now. God is near to those who seek Him…as I know you and Tom constantly are doing. Great things are in store for the Walter family.

I love how you have been drawn closer together even during this trial. As you know, I’ve interviewed many couples who say their marriage was strengthened during a time of great difficulty. I hope you look back and say it was a BRIEF time of difficulty that cemented you together in your marriage and faith. Blessings to you both.

Hey Lori,
It’s good to hear from you. Yes, I pray it is brief too. But God alone knows what’s best for us. Our job is to continually seek Him for help and wisdom no matter where the road leads.
I hope you’re doing well,
Debi

We are going thru the same thing. A the age of 53 I was let go from my job of 16 years but God has given us a sense of peace and calm. I had been praying if I was worshiping the job instead of God and if God wanted me there. I got His answer and he has provided a generous severance to ease the situation. We know he has a job in mind for me and hopefully we will get the same clear message.

Just a short note to say that I appreciate your sharing and the way in which you both exemplify turning to each other and to the Lord. The “losing your job” journey certainly is not easy.
Thanks for being a positive influence in this regard.
