We are in the middle of a series of 13 Fall Dates To Warm Your Heart. We hope you’re finding each date easy to do, and full of potential to make a romantic memory that will last long after the date is over.
One of my most favorite things to do when the weather is cooler is to have a fire in the backyard. There is something relaxing about watching the flickering flames as the wood burns in the heat under the clear night sky. If you don’t have a fire pit we encourage you to buy one. They can be found for as little as $39 at your local hardware store.
Fall Date #4 – Backyard Camp Fire
This is the time when the weather is crisp and cool when the sun goes down. A perfect time to light a fire under the stars after the kids are in bed. If you have a tent and sleeping bags, this provides a great way to cuddle and keep warm. Be sure to buy goodies for s’mores. You could even include the children on this part, and then put them to bed. Here are some things you may want to have on hand to make this night the best it can be:
- Telescope
- Sleeping bags – two that zip together are the best
- Large throw blanket
- two chairs
- Stuff for s’mores
- Coffee, hot tea or cider
- Bug spray
- Guitar, if you or your spouse are musically inclined
Be sure to leave your cell phones in the house. This is a couple of hours for couple time. No need to invite the world through social media.
When was the last time you enjoyed a fire outdoors with your sweetie?

And we love going to restaurants where they have outdoor fires to cozy up to. A great alternative if you don’t have access to one at home. ❤

We have a fire pit sitting on our patio because this is one of our favorite things to do together! And now that it’s finally getting a little chilly here in Virginia, we’ll be doing lots of fires!

Elizabeth, we have the same. We also enjoy going to New Smyrna Beach where you can reserve a fire ring on the beach. You bring your own wood and can stay until 11p. When the fires must be extinguished. If you’re ever in FL, it’s one of our favorite things to do.

What a fantastic idea! We unfortunately live in a complex and so a “backyard fire” isn’t possible (or legal). But we’re going to visit my family for Thanksgiving, and my grandparents are letting us use their cabin for the weekend after Thanksgiving and there’s a fireplace. We’re definitely planning to bring s’mores and hot cocoa and to cuddle with a big blanket. Thanks for the reminder to shut off our phones too. My husband is an IT guy and so we’re constantly connected to something here, but it’s good every once in awhile (and the world doesn’t end) if we turn off our phones.
