Waiting

There is nothing more challenging to faith than to have to wait. A patient has to wait for the results from a test to see if their condition is fatal. A student has to wait to see if their test scores are high enough to pursue their dreams. A mother waits up late in the night until her teen is home safe and sound. A husband waits for his annual review not knowing if he’ll make enough to support his family in the coming year.

There are so many times when we are required to wait. Some waits are trivial, like waiting for an app to load on the phone, but even those types test our patience. How does one wait without worry, without sin?

One answer – worship! If we are worshiping our goals, our desires, our plans, we will be anxious every time we are unexpectedly forced to wait. If our eyes are on God, we will find comfort as we wait for His timing. It won’t be easy, mind you, but we will be comforted as we wait.

Wednesday is our pause in the week to remind us all to worship God in the midst of our challenges. He is in control. We can trust Him. So grab a cup of coffee or tea and spend the next few minutes worshiping God with one of our favorite songs, Out of the Depths.  We pray it will be a healthy break from your routine and a readjustment of your focus.

  2. Lovely. (I’ve never heard this one, Debi)

About waiting – when we were married 25 years we had a special blessing at church. The text given was Ecclesiastes 3 – Robert and I paraphrase it in conversation as “all things for a time”. It makes the waiting and the letting go easier because we know God has ALL in His hands…

I love that – all things for a time. Sounds wonderfully romantic, but not so easy to do. The song is from the Psalms CD put out by Sovereign Grace Music. The entire album is amazing and worth buying!

It’s so important to pause throughout our day to hear what the Lord has to say about every aspect of our life. I had that happen today as I was rushing around with a vendor trying to get pricing done for one of our buildings and as I was rushing him to finish and give me the estimate, the Lord tapped me on the shoulder and reminded me that even in business He wants me to represent Him well. He said, “Okay, so let’s try that again.” I turned around and smiled and the vendor and then just let him take his time.

Wow. Thanks for sharing Fawn. We do need to slow down long enough to hear God speak to us in the little moments of our days.
