Taking Turns

taking-turns

Here’s a great idea we discovered recently:  Set aside one night each week as your date night and make every effort to keep it on the same night.   Take turns planning your date following these simple rules:

  • It must last at least 2 hours
  • You must plan something that your spouse will enjoy
  • Topics not allowed to discuss are – work issues or parenting issues.  This is your night to nourish your relationship as husband and wife, not to fix all the other problems that loom large over you.
  • Remember your date doesn’t have to cost anything – it can even be at home once the children are asleep.  (See D.R.A.B. category for ideas)
  • Use the category list in the sidebar to help with ideas when it’s your turn.

Hello. Nice to meet you. I found your site today and I have been reading all the posts. Great site. I took the romantic bedroom quiz and got 50. Not so bad but not what I want. I will take your suggestions. My husband and I could really use a place of “OURS”. We have 6 children, from previous marriages and are trying desperatly to find time for “US”. We both feel our family comes first I believe out of guilt for our failed marriages. We are still so in love and hunger to be alone with each other when we are not exausted from the day. We try “date night” but it seems something always comes up. We have gone out once for 3 hours in the last 2 months. Otherwise, our time is spent with our children and work and house and by the time we go to bed, there is nothing left. Sometimes, we make the time to “be together” for at least a half hour before falling asleep but not always. I have said to him many times, “we cannot forget about “US””. He says he knows but we are doing our best. Any suggestions? I love your site and thank you for your time. I am glad I found you!
