Our wedding anniversary was Tuesday. We began the day reading our letters and cards from 1978.
You see in that year there were no emails, no Face Time, no texts. All we had were long distance in-state phone calls, (land lines at that!) And they were too expensive before 11:00 p.m. We would try to stay up to call each other, but sometimes we were too tired and wrote letters instead.
One year I took all our letters and arranged them in a notebook. This year we decided to read them all. It took us most of the day, off and on, but by dinner we had read everything that was to be the foundation of us the last 47 years.
Through all the “hallelujahs” and “ praise the Lords” one thing was evident; God was birthing in us a lasting love. When we finished we were undone by God’s kindness in bringing us together.
Tom took me to dinner at one of our favorite places—The Capital Grill.

We shared a New York strip steak with a Gorgonzola crust with Cabernet Sauvignon reduction sauce. It was like candy!
The restaurant provided a complimentary dessert of flourless chocolate cake and a cheesecake with a chocolate stenciled “Happy Anniversary”.

It was a beautiful day recounting God’s faithfulness through the good times and hard times. All the while He was making us more like Jesus.

What is your favorite meal for special occasions? We have many, but this one tops the list.
I love you Tom Walter. You will always be my favorite!
