We have been wanting to see the movie, The King’s Speech, but schedules have prevented us from it…until tonight. We decided this would be the perfect time, and we were excited.
I wanted to fix a dinner that would build on our movie theme, but I didn’t know much about the story, except two things:
- It was about King George VI
- It won the Oscar for Best Picture (and a lot more.)
So I pondered what meal I could fix to build on our theme. I thought of two things:
- Veal Oscar
- King Crab Legs
I did a google search looking for a good recipe for Veal Oscar and was pleased to find one, which used both king crab and veal in the recipe. I knew this would be the perfect dinner for our King’s Speech Date Night.
Tom was busy working on his computer, while I got to work putting this special date night together as a surprise. It wasn’t difficult at all, but it was a bit pricey. (Note: you might substitute imitation crab meat to cut down on costs and use chicken, instead of veal. And it still would be a lovely dish.)
Tom loved the meal, and the movie was enthralling. Neither of us knew the story behind King George’s ascension to the throne. His compelling story celebrates true friendship and a marriage built on love, trust and encouragement. We had heard bits and pieces, but tonight they all came together giving us a clearer picture of the truth. Come to think of it – it correlates to all the ingredients of my recipe coming together to make a perfect dish.
Yes, it was a perfect date – a veal oscar winning night – one we don’t often do yet thoroughly enjoyed.
Every now and then, you simply need a Dinner and a Movie. There’s nothing quite like snuggling together in a dark room waiting for the show to begin.
Favorite quote: “I plan to be a very good queen married to a great king!”
Aww, that’s so romantic! I plan to see the movie soon too!
