I am away at a writer’s retreat this weekend in a state that has captured my affection.
Oklahoma is wear my Mom was born in 1922 and where our grandson was born in 2020. It is also the setting of my book, Through The Eyes Of Grace. I’m actually here asking God if this is the time for me to work on my next book. Alas, I am not sure, so I’m enjoying an hour or so, reading the Fall Issue of Magnolia Magazine.
This is the one magazine that I actually read cover to cover. I even keep a bookmark where I left off not to miss a single word.
The theme for this season’s edition is An Invitation To Linger, and it was perfect timing to bring to a retreat where I’ll actually have time to linger.

What does this have to do with Foodie Fridays?
I’ve discovered a secret to help our guests linger around the table, and anyone can do it. I simply serve the meal family-style, letting the food be the centerpiece. I used to set the food up in the kitchen and serve it buffet style. While this did the job, it didn’t allow guests to easily get seconds.
I have done this the last three times we have had friends or family over, and everyone has helped themselves to seconds. This is a hostess’ dream. The conversation deepens the longer we remain at the table and connections are made that we may have missed had the meal been rushed.
The next time you have friends over, try my secret and see if your guests don’t linger long after the last bite is taken.
“The best memories are made when gathered around the table.”
