Going and Doing

My husband had a very hectic and difficult day today.   I had a hectic and difficult day as well. Normally Tom looks forward to coming home to relax.  However, our home is in the middle of some major renovations – hardly the place for a man to relax!  Spontaneously I decided to decorate a small table in our bare dining room and set it for two.  I made a quick pasta dish and had one of his favorite albums playing as he walked in the door.

Immediately his shoulders relaxed as he saw the peaceful, candlelit place I had prepared for him.  It wasn’t much, but it was all he needed.  We had a wonderful time talking and catching up on the events of the day.  Once dinner ended it was back to our going and doing, but in the middle of it all we had a moment to catch our breath and reconnect as husband and wife.

Why not plan a moment right in the middle of your going and doing?  NOTE:  I used to do this even when our children were little – it’s good for them to see Mommy and Daddy enjoy being alone together.  Talk it up and prepare something special for them to do while you’re having your “moment” together.   It’s worth the effort!

Hey! We are in the middle of a crazy “going and doing” season – especially Steve. Every year I try to have a special Christmas dinner just for the two of us! Usually I send the kids off, but this year that’s not possible, so I’m planning on doing the same sort of thing Friday night! It will be the one night he’s home this week, and we’ll have a special dinner set for two with music and candles by the Christmas tree. I always try to get him a special little gift, too, for him to open that evening! I’ve been looking forward to this night all week! I wanted to surprise him, but couldn’t safely pull that off this week, so hopefully he’s looking forward to it now that he knows about it!
