Baby It’s Cold Outside

Today we offer you practical ideas for date nights when it’s freezing outside!  In Florida this doesn’t happen very often, but this entire week the temperature won’t rise above the 50’s.  For we thin-blooded Floridians, baby, it’s cold outside!  So put on your winter thinking hats as we plunge into the polar pool of great dates to keep the home fires burning – no matter how cold it is outside!

  • Invest in a nice Thermos and brew your own hot chocolate, coffee or hot tea and go for an evening picnic under the stars.  You might want to purchase some Hot Hands to keep your hands warm!
  • Go to a restaurant that provides a crackling fire to warm yourself by while you dine.  Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Cracker Barrel and Bahama Breeze are a few worth checking out.
  • Visit Carrabba’s and sit at the counter watching the chef prepare his creations over an open fire.
  • Go to a local Irish Pub for some Irish Stew and Coffee.
  • Go out for ice cream.  Something about cold weather that makes ice cream taste so much better.  Share a banana split!
  • Plan a spa evening for your spouse by rearranging your bathroom.  Put away the yellow duckies, razors and anything else remotely “normal” and replace them with every candle you own.  Set them all over the bathroom.  Set up your ipod/mp3 player to some romantic spa music.  Draw a steaming hot bath and enjoy the evening alone.  Afterwards cuddle up in robes and slippers to watch some cold, winter movies where the cold itself is like a character in the movie.   Try The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; March of the Penquins; The Family Man; or Jeremiah Johnson.  Two long-time favorites are Cool Runnings and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
  • Enjoy fondue either by going out to a fondue restaurant or make your own at home.
  • Make s’mores over an open fire.
  • Go ice skating – don’t forget the camera!
  • Bowling is a great date for cold weather.  Be sure to call the alley first to make sure they have open lanes.
  • Cold weather?  Work up a sweat by going bicycling or hiking.  It’s a great workout and you’ll have lots of time to talk.
  • If you live where it snows – try a snowman building competition, go sledding or go for a sleigh ride.
  • Try a Florida sleigh ride – rent or borrow a convertible, pile on the layers of clothes and go cruising through town with some hot jazz playing on the radio.

I love the cold. Something about cold crisp air is just romantic. I saw something funny online the other day. It was something called smittens. They were something like two mittens stitched together so that a couple could walk hand in hand and still protect themselves from the cold. Was really funny.
